Casein acid hydrolysate is used as a nutrient mixture in peptone agars for a variety of bacteria, including Bacillus subtilis, Enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptomyces pyogenes, and Streptomyces griseus. It used as a microbiological nutrient in laboratory media and fermentations. It has also been used as a nutrient in vaccine and toxin production where a high free amino acid content is required.
