Meat speciation

Meat speciation is the identification of the animal species that a piece of meat came from and is performed for various economic, ethical, cultural and safety reasons. Manufacturers and retailers must be able to authenticate their products to give consumers the highest levels of confidence possible.

Avantor® offers a wide range of products for meat speciation, including supplies for performing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) and qualitative PCR analyses. These methods help identify the animal species that raw or cooked meat products come from across a wide variety of food and feed matrices.
