What can we learn from our urine?

In this lab, students will be testing WARD'S completely safe and nontoxic simulated urine samples for pH, sugar, and protein, and will then be observing the samples through microscope for further analysis. The students are provided with four different case studies and simulated urine for each patient. A urinalysis is then performed on each sample. The students' understanding of these exercises will allow them to learn the basis of urinalysis and how it is used to diagnose medical problems while employing the basic Structures and Properties (LS1) Framework Principles.

This kit has been aligned with all published National Standards. Pre- and Post-laboratory assessments and vocabulary words all target specific Science and Engineering Practices and common core standards. The teacher guide also contains specific "Did You Know" concepts that link the real world with the scientific standards explored. A student copymaster is also included. Materials are included for 10 setups.
