Carterville is a small town with a big problem. The town has grown astronomically over the last hundred years, but never as fast as it has within the last ten. Now the pains of growth have struck the town, its citizens, businesses and most importantly, Carter Creek. In this ecological simulation, students join the Environmental Protection Services to solve the mystery of the pollution of Carter Creek. The students perform chemical tests on both the water and sediment from the creek. Once the tests have been performed they decide who or what is responsible for the fouling of the creek. All tests are simulations of real tests for lead, mercury, PCBs and 2,4 D (2, 4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid). Includes a teacher’s guide.
