Regulated by the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (SOR/86-304), required first aid supplies in federally regulated workplaces vary depending on the number of employees at the worksite. Each of the workplace first aid kits is designed to service a specific number of employees and includes all the required first aid supplies to meet or exceed federal first aid kit requirements.
Federal Type A First Aid Kit is required for workplaces with 2 to 5 employees on staff at any given time. Federal Type B First Aid kit is required for workplaces with 6 or more employees at any one time where the first aid attendant is required to have at least a basic first aid certificate. Federal Type C First Aid kit is required for workplaces with 6 or more employees at any one time where the first aid attendant is required to have at least a standard first aid certificate. Federal Type D First Aid kit is required for workplaces with 1 remote worker or 1 to 3 workers travelling by snowmobile or other small vehicle, other than a truck, van, or automobile.
