About this item

The Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) system is a non-specific test that alerts physicians to the presence of disease or abnormality in the body

The SEDI-RATE™ system features a polystyrene pipet graduated from 0–180mm, with a fibrous plug located at the zero mark. The plug acts as a self-sealing aerosol barrier to prevent hazardous substances from escaping. The polypropylene SEDI-RATE™ vial features a self-sealing stopper that is easily pierced with a transfer pipet or piercing funnel. The vial is supplied prefilled with 0.25mL of 3.8% trisodium citrate diluent. To conduct the test, a 1mL EDTA-treated blood sample is added to the vial and mixed. The pipet is then inserted into the vial, allowing the mix to rise into the pipet and stop at the zero mark. Test results are available in 60 minutes, and can be read directly from the imprinted scale on the pipet.

SEDI-RATE™ systems are completely closed and incorporate the use of shatter-proof plastic components, offering the highest degree of safety. These systems eliminate splashing, spraying, and aerosol hazards, and consistenly provide accurate and reproducible results.

ESR is determined by measuring, in millimeters per hour, the separation distance accumulated between red blood cells and plasma in a vertical sed-rate pipet.
