About this item

Adrenergic receptors mediate the hormone and neurotransmitter functions of adrenaline and noradrenaline. Adrenoreceptors function in peripheral tissues and the central nervous system to regulate numerous vascular, metabolic, and neurological functions, and are the target for many therapeutically relevant drugs including those for the treatment of hypertension, asthma, benign prostatic hypertrophy, and depression. Adrenoreceptors are classified by three types (α1, α2, and β) and multiple subclasses based on pharmacological and molecular characteristics. The three β adrenergic receptor subtypes (β 1, 2, 3) signal primarily via coupling to GS alpha subunits, stimulating production of cAMP and activation of protein kinase A to regulate opening of L-type Ca2+ channels. Expression of β1 receptors is highest in the heart and in adipose tissue, displaying relatively equal sensitivity to adrenaline and noradrenaline. The β 2 receptor mediates relaxation in vascular, uterine, and pulmonary smooth muscle, and shows greater sensitivity to noradrenaline compared to adrenaline. Agonist affinity to β2 adrenergic receptors is modulated by Zn2+ concentration, and may also trigger cGMP accumulation and protein kinase G activation via Gi/o alpha subunit coupling in some cell types.

  • For ELISA, Flow Cytometry, Western Blot

Recognizes rat adrenergic receptor beta1. Predicted MW of ~50kDa. Higher MW species (~75kDa) and intermediates also observed by Western blot which reflect post-translational modification and dimerization of the receptor. Predicted species reactivity based on epitope sequence homology: human, mouse, guinea pig, wild boar, chimpanzee, dog, cat, rhesus macaque, bovine, opossum.
