Agarose, white powder for electrophoresis

Supplier: MP Biomedicals

Agarose is a purified linear galactan hydrocolloid isolated from agar or agar-bearing marine algae.
Agarose is useful in separation of nucleic acids electrophoretically because agarose gels have larger pore sizes than cross linked acrylamide gels at low concentrations and in chromatographic separations by either beading the agarose or cross-linking it. Agarose gels are also used in immunoelectrophoresis (IEP) and double-diffusion Ouchterlony plates to demonstrate antibody-antigen reactions. Agarose was used to prepare 0.5% agarose gel for Southern blot analysis of the DNA extracted from primate muscles.
The following is a list of properties associated with our agaroses: Sulfate content - used as an indicator of purity, since sulfate is the major ionic group present. Gel strength - the force that must be applied to a gel to cause it to fracture. Gel point - the temperature at which an aqueous agarose solution forms a gel as it cools. Agarose solutions exhibit hysteresis in the liquid-to-gel transition - that is, their gel point is not the same as their melting temperature. Electroendosmosis (EEO) - a movement of liquid through the gel. Anionic groups in an agarose gel are affixed to the matrix and cannot move, but dissociable counter cations can migrate toward the cathode in the matrix, giving rise to EEO. Since electrophoretic movement of biopolymers is usually toward the anode, EEO can disrupt separations because of internal convection.

Agarose, powder, Genetic Technology Grade

Supplier: MP Biomedicals

Agarose is a purified linear galactan hydrocolloid isolated from agar or agar-bearing marine algae. It is a linear polymer consisting of alternating D-galactose and 3,6-anhydro-L-galactose units. It is specially prepared to allow recovery of active DNA after separation, with minimal inhibition of restriction and ligation enzymes. Suitable for both analytical and preparative electrophoresis procedures.

Agarose II, powder, low melting for biotechnology

Agarose II, powder, low melting for biotechnology

Supplier: G-Biosciences

G-Biosciences offers several different biotechnology-grade agarose powders. Agarose II has a low melting and gelling temperature compared to standard agaroses. The low melting temperature allows for the recovery of undamaged nucleic acids below the denaturation temperature. The low gelling temperature ensures that the agarose will be in a liquid state at a temperature range where in-gel manipulations can be performed without prior extraction from the agarose slice.

Agarose, Ultra Sieve for electrophoresis

Agarose, Ultra Sieve for electrophoresis

Supplier: IBI Scientific

Ultra Sieve Agarose is designed for high resolution electrophoresis where resolution of polyacrylamide gels are needed. Ultra Sieve Agarose improves clarity of gels and enhances visualization, even at high concentrations. Ultra Sieve Agarose has low viscosity, therefore high concentration gels can be made with high resolving capacity. The high gel strength, low concentration of 1.0-1.5% can also be made. Using TAE buffer, make a 1.8% gel for 400-1200bp, 3.0% gel for 150-800bp, and 4.5% gel for 15-400bp. To achieve the best resolution, store ultra sieve gels at +4-8°C for 30 minutes prior to use.
